Message from the President
By Jane Reiman

Players, volunteers, countless hours, and good times are what it takes to have a successful MWGA golf season, and 2009 was definitely a success. Participant numbers were lower than usual in some of the out-of-town tournaments, but we attracted top players and had some exciting events.

Who could forget the three-way playoff at the MWGA four-ball championship at Tianna? Claudia Pilot and Brenda Williams prevailed over teams Leigh Klasse-Betsy Aldrich and Kelly Kirwin-Kristen Wagner. Also of note is that Claudia won two of our other tournaments this year. She won the Senior Four-Ball Championship partnered with Mary Hoisser, and she won the Senior Women's Amateur Championship. Thank you to all our players for making our tournaments so exciting!

Our group of willing volunteers gives countless hours to the MWGA. Local club members are ready and willing to volunteer when we host a tournament or association day and you are absolutely wonderful! You work cheerfully as hostesses, spotters, scoreboard helpers, "runners" and whatever is necessary. Thank you so very much for making our tournaments run smoothly!

Thanks also to our MWGA Rules Committee volunteers, many of whom have spent extra days away from home this summer to help make our tournaments successful. Marta Groess chaired the committee this year and she also gave many hours to help make everything run like clockwork.

We have many, many other wonderful volunteers helping out as club liaisons, regional liaisons, committee members, and MWGA Board members. We also have wonderful support in the MGA office, especially from Paula Lutz, the Women's Manager. We also heartily thank Bill Homeyer, our Rules Consultant, for his expertise and dedication to the MWGA.

Although countless hours are spent in organizing and providing successful MWGA tournaments and events, we know that "many hands make light work." We share in the effort and that is the strength of the MWGA and that is how we can accomplish so much.

All the work doesn't mean we're not having good times. Just listen to the happy talk when MWGA members and competitors meet and greet each other as they arrive for an event. The luncheons at our tournaments and social events always echo with the festive sound of talk and laughter. The MWGA Fall Meeting this year at New Ulm was a fine example of a good time. Char Dannheim greeted us all wearing her German folk costume. We had a beautiful morning of golf, followed by lunch with excellent German food and a beer tasting. The multi-talented greens keeper even provided entertainment with his concertina!

Thank you players, members, and volunteers for all you do to keep the MWGA, this wonderful organization, strong after 94 years.
