Nicki Reuterfeldt in Minnesota Golf Hall of Fame

Nicki Reuterfeldt with MWGA President Joan Archer and MWPGA President Ann Brilley
The Minnesota Golf Association (MGA) and the Minnesota Section of the PGA of America (MN PGA) announced the 2011 class of six inductees into the MGA-PGA Minnesota Golf Hall of Fame. They are: Mike Fermoyle, Chet Latawiec, Nora McGuire, Julie Gumlia (Marvel), Nicki Nordstrom Reuterfeldt, and David M. Tentis.
MWGA member Nicki Reuterfeldt chose the Bunker Hills Ladies' League Invitational on July 7th for her induction ceremony. Jon Tollette, Minnesota PGA Executive Director, and Tom Ryan, MGA Executive Director, presented her with a plaque and summarized her impressive golf accomplishments. There were over 200 women golfers in attendance as well as members of the Reuterfeldt family and many special guests. Krista Larsen, Nicki's daughter, prepared a slide show documenting her mother's extraordinary career in amateur golf.
Nicki Nordstrom Reuterfeldt's winning ways span five decades in Minnesota and Florida. Click here to read more.
The Bean Jar: 75 Years and Counting
Shirley Woodfill, an avid golfer and a member of the Owatonna Country Club, sent this article about a great golf tradition in Southern Minnesota.
I would like to share with you a tradition known as the Bean Jar tournament that celebrated its 75th anniversary at the Owatonna Country Club on August 2nd. The Bean Jar Tournament is thought to be the second oldest women's golf tournament in Minnesota.
Every year on a Tuesday in August, approximately 80 women golfers from the participating clubs in Southeastern Minnesota come together to compete in a tournament called The Bean Jar. The name of the tournament dates back to the early days of play in the early1930s when the main course shared at lunch following play was a pot of beans. The winning team would take the bean jar as its trophy, giving the tournament a name that has stuck through to the present. Click here to read more.
Message from the President
The weather this spring and first part of the summer has really been hard on golf courses and our chances of getting out and golfing. Many of you, because you love the game or are a little crazy about golf, have been out there in the cold, wind and rain of the spring or the oppressive heat and humidity of the summer.
Thanks to all of you for playing in the events and tournaments to date and to our many volunteers for working in these very trying conditions. A special thanks to Nancy Syverson, the MWGA Tournaments Director, and Laurie Velett, MWGA Rules Director. They have done a fantastic job under adverse weather conditions this summer. Hopefully, the few tournaments remaining this season will be blessed with good weather.
